FirstView is not about the art of photography but the mundane aspect of the day…
However, some folk who contribute images to the project can’t seem to bring themselves to post a ‘snap’ – the idea, IMO, being it’s a grab shot of some aspect of your day-to-day existence, if it were shot on film it’d be a copy of the print straight from Boots.
But no, some can’t do that, they’re either too insecure to allow a lesser image pass from them to the outside world, or everything is a competition to them and they MUST show they are BETTER than anyone less. Fuck ‘em.
I don’t want to see a sepia fucking print, a print with a poncey border, a cropped and adjusted piece of ‘art’ – I want to see REAL FUCKING LIFE nothing more, nothing less, REALITY.
There are also some who don’t use the FV gallery to contribute to a permanent archive, a single place to view all the contributions over the years – a place where control of the image remains with the originator. But they insist on using the likes of flickr, etc., then remove the image later.
AFAIC they might as well not bother to contribute at all, by doing what they do they defeat the object of the exercise – an archive of the mundane, the everyday. Why is it that some folk just cannot truly enter into the spirit of these things and leave their ego’s out of it!
