OK, I accept this probably has nowt to do with The One Show but, to me it is indicative of the disinformation and malformed opinion blurted out on that TV program. I tend not to watch it as, Adrian Chiles is such a facile twunt, but I do get a précis of what’s being said time to time from herself, and occasionally get the gist during the show as she exclaims aloud next door. thankfully she and I are utterly compatible in this respect, as we are in many, many other areas of our lives – a perfect match, but I digress…

Anyhoo, this is also indicative, IMO, of a greater malaise within the BBC, particularly News & Current Affairs department (if it’s still called that). Inaccuracies broadcast as fact, ‘news’ reports that are mere opinion, and vocal editorialising by newsreaders.
‘Vocal editorialising’ is my term for that dreadful habit newsreaders have of invoking a given emotion through their intonation of a word, a sentence, an entire reading. As if to tell us how we should feel about a given story, how we should react to it, who we should see as the villain of a piece, etc.
JUST READ THE FUCKING NEWS, give us the FACTS in the Queen’s English, deadpan, and let us decide how we wish to react to it.
